This year's theme to USA Antibiotics Awareness week is "Takes All Of Us" and it focuses on a One Health approach. Antibiotic resistance (AR) is one of the most urgent threats to public health. AR is a “one health” problem and connects to the health of people, animals, and the environment
Antibiotic use affects everyone. Metoprolol will block those same receptors 10 years from now (we may find something that works better, but metoprolol will still work). Amoxicillin likely won't kill the same bacteria that it does today because the bacteria change too.
Everyone has a role in fighting antimicrobial resistance. Working together, through a One Health approach, we must improve the global prescribing and use of antibiotic and antifungal drugs and invest in global infection prevention actions across human health, animal health, plant health and the environment (for example soil and water).
We're all in this together.
